Ares Alpha Combat Gun
|
The Ares Alpha was the premier weapon of its day, enthusiastically embraced by
veteran Desert Wars mercenary companies as their weapon of choice. The Ares Alpha
features an over/under 5.56 caliber assault rifle and a 40mm mini-grenade launcher
with built-in recoil compensation. The Alpha comes chipped from the factory with
Smartlink-2 and can be easily modified with barrel and top-mounted accessories.
The underbarrel grenade launcher precludes any underbarrel accessories.

To compete with the HK-M29 OICW and replace the older Ares Alpha, Ares has released
its Delta Combat Gun. A unique over/under system pairs a high-powered bull-pup
assault rifle with an underbarrel semi-automatic rocket launcher based on gyrojet
technology. The weapon comes standard with full Smartlink II integration and
features a sophisticated targeting scope/computer, a built-in barrel mounted Gas
Vent IV and an overbarrel bipod for 6 points of recoil absorption.
The assault rifle fires the 5.56 mm nato round from a gas-operated rotating bolt.
The extended 50-round clip is mounted horizontally in the back, sliding in just
above the butt stock and under the scope mount. As the assault rifle fires, the
specific gravity actually moves towards the barrel, naturally reducing barrel climb.
The underbarrel launcher fires 25mm fin stabilizied rockets with a High Explosive
head behind an armor piercing penetrator. The rockets are launched via a solonoid
trigger & electric ignition. The launcher is smooth-bore, with a sabot aiding rapid
initial acceleration within the barrel. The rounds can be programmed for
either direct HEAPDS mode, or for airburst at a preprogrammed range. The blast damage
is considerably less in airburst mode, but allows the weapon to defeat fortifications
with indirect fire and simplifies usage with a single multi-purpose round.
The targeting scope features Optical Magnification III, Lowlight, Thermographic,
Ultrasound, & Smartlink II. Along the right side of the assault rifle barrel is an
extended range laser designator/rangefinder. Inside the stock is the targeting
computer which incorporates Battletac Reciever Unit with FDDM, GPS & orientation
system. The grip is equipped with a Personalized Smartlink Safety that only allows
operation of the weapon with a smartlink system that carries the proper (encrypted)
serial number.

Ares Gamma Combat Gun
|
The third weapon in their Combat Gun line, the Ares Gamma is a rarely seen weapon.
Another over/under weapon, the Ares Gamma features a 5.56 assault rifle with an
underbarrel flamethrower. The compact flamethrower has a pair of tanks just forward
of the trigger which contain a binary propellant. Harmless when unmixed, the two
liquids self-ignite only when they come in contact with one another. The two
pressurized containers store enough fuel for eight shots and are mated to one another
in a cartridge-type package that is easily replaceable in the field.
The Ares Gamma comes equipped with Smartlink II & Shockpads in the stock. In addition,
the Gamma has an integral combat scope that retracts into the top of the weapon, leaving
only a smooth armored shell. The scope has Electronic Magnification III, Lowlight, &
Theromgraphics.

Ares HVAR
|
Playing a game of one-upmanship, the Ares HVAR is the assault rifle version of the
Ingram Supermach - an automatic rifle that fires at super machine gun rates. The
weapon features an internal Smartlink-2 and built-in recoil compensation. Like the
SuperMach, the HVAR cannot accept barrel-mounted accessories.
The HVAR fires 6-round bursts that do 12D damage and can fire up to 18 rounds in full-auto mode.
The internal design provides 3 points of recoil compensation.

The carbine/paratrooper edition of
the M22, the M22A4 has a shortened barrel and stock assembly and has
replaced the carrying handle and imaging sight with a rail-mount for
whatever accessories the cammando in question (be it military or urban)
wants to add. With the reduced barrel length, the recoil compensation
had to be removed also, pretty much restricting the weapon to burst-fire
rates.

The AR3000 shares most design concepts with the CyberTronic SR3500 but is set for
full-auto fire and has an integrated pump-action 37mm grenade launcher below the

Fabrique Nationale has resurrected an old favorite, the "Fusil Automatique Leger",

HK-XM8
Assault Rifle w/ Grenade Launcher

The HK-XM8 is the 5.56mm assault rifle component of the UCAS M29 OICW. The XM8
Carbine shares many of the components of the OICW making it a widespread addition
to OICW equipped forces due to ease of maintenance & training. Like the G80 system,
the XM8 has four varients: a baseline carbine, a sharpshooter variant, an automatic
rifle variant, and the ultra-compact carbine variant. Each of the variants is easily
reconfigurable in the field, enabling the weapon to meet changing mission requirements.
The M8 comes standard with Smartlink II, shock pads in a retractable
buttstock, a multi-function sight consisting of an optical scope with
magnification III & lowlight. The XM8 package also comes with barrels
for sniper & LMG variants, a short barrel & cut-down stock for the SMG
variant, underbarrel grenade launcher, bipod & 100 round capacity twin
drum magazine.

The Manex Assault Rifle was designed with front line troups in mind. They were
made to be rugged and last for a long time. Manex wanted a weapon that would be
an accurate rifle right out of the crate. Many governments passed on buying them
because of the expense, they were too much for those who wanted a budget gun and
contained too little for those who wanted a fancy model. However many merc units
bought them and some police/security forces were issued them. In some merc
companies these have become the weapon of choice. The Manex features a bullpup
design and have been fitted with a Gas Vent II. The basic rifle includes Smartgun
Link.
After the Assault Rifle had been out for a time the company had re-evaluated the
line and desided to retool and manufacture a Grenadier verson. The Grenadier model
has been fitted with the new Smartgun Link II. The Grenadier model has also been
reworked to include the ManexÕs magazine fed Grenade Launcher. The launcher is
mounted on top of the basic weapon system.

Steyr's AUG-CSL is a mult-weapon system similar to the German HK G-80 that is
capable of being assembled as either an assault rifle, carbine, submachine-gun
or light machine gun with the parts of the broken down weapon fitting into a
large briefcase. Conversion requires a standard Assault Rifles B/R (4) Test,
with a base time of 20 combat turns. All versions have integral top-mounted
laser sights and a barrel mounted Gas-Vent III. An external smartgun system can
be added with no loss of Concealability and the carrying handle/rail can accept
any scope.
The Gas Vent III and shock pads provide 4 points of recoil compensation. The
AUG-CSL can accept top and bottom mounted accessories only.

An interesting bullpup over/under assault rifle/shotgun combat gun, the Styer
Sasquatch utilizes a unique cylindrical magazine for the underbarrel shotgun.
Three shells are stored linearly in eight rows on a rotating shaft that aligns
the row with the feed mechanism at the top of the cylinder. Different ammunition
types can be stored for each of the feed rows, and the internal smartlink
automatically rotates the magazine to present the desired ammunition type. Pulling
back on the stock seperates the gun and extracts the cylidrical shotgun magazine.
The Assault rifle on top fires the standard 5.56 NATO round and includes a Gas Vent
II on the front and the aforementioned integral Smartlink II. The 5.56 ammo clip
slots in just behind the cylindrical magazine for the shotgun. The stock of the weapon
has built-in shock pads, and the weapon can only accept top-mounted accessories. The
trigger fires both the assault rifle and the shotgun, with a manual selector switch
just above on the receiver plate.
