| Description: Classical street samurai swordsman who follows the code of Bushido. His high cheekbones, intense-blue eyes & aristocratic nose betray his European heritage, contrasted by his Asiatic, slightly tilted eyes and long, sleek black hair. The only traces of his orkish heritage is the feral cast his sharp canines give his grin, a slight coarseness of hair and the sharp inclines of his face. | -9 | Edges & Flaws | see below | |||||

Min Walker (Level 2 Contact) Min grew up with Jon, and when he left the clan she came with him. She keeps him grounded in the chaos of the world he’s suddenly been thrust into, and he tries his best to take care of her.
Uncle Chan (Talismonger - Level 1 Contact) "Uncle" is everyone's favorite chinese uncle. The owner of a combination furniture/Talismongery shop, he is a potent WuJen enchanter, whose shop sits atop the junction of two ley lines.
Sam “Yosemite” Granger (Military Fixer – Level 1 Contact) 5,000 nY Sam denies that his nickname has anything to do with a certain late 20th century caricature, but his long moustache and Texan drawl don’t lend his arguments much weight. An old friend and contact of Aithen’s mentor, he helps the kid out of respect for the memory of Alain. He has a daughter - Vanessa - a year younger than Aithen that he keeps a very close eye upon whenever Aithen comes around. He also has a shotgun he’s named Linda that he keeps a close hand upon whenever Aithen comes around.
Gezpacho (Shadowrunner – Level 1 Contact) Gazpacho is a tomato soup - a Native-American street-sam turned street teacher who runs a school in the Redmond Barrens open to all who are interested in learning. Aithen spends his free time there learning from the older runners and helping out with the kids.
Kurosawa Hideoshi (Armorer - Level 1 Contact) An enigmatic japanese elf who has taken an inexplicable interest in Aithen. Hideoshi learned the art of armor making from his father, a traditional japanese armor smith, but is also competent with the full range of modern armors. He does some custom work for Heritage Line's Feudal Japanese series and owns a shop that sells oriental clothing & weapons.
Aithen wasn’t always Aithen. Once upon a time his name was Jon, Jonathan Lane, son to Tom and Kari Lane and older brother to little Wilhelmina Lane. The family was the smallest of a half dozen nomad clans that traveled together from one construction contract to another. As a child, he wasn’t allowed to work heavy machinery or do much of the heavy labor, but he learned electronics and how to run a lathe and other workshop tools under the supervision of elders in the clan.
Jon didn’t look anything like his younger sister, or even like his parents. He was born an ork for one, and for another he had distinctly Asian features mixed in with European. His father just showed up one day with a baby and had told everyone that Jon’s mother died when he was little. A short while later, he ended up marrying one of the Nomad women, Kari whom had a daughter of her own.
Jon started having odd dreams, where a tall, cloaked figure was watching over him as he went about his normal routine in the nomad camps. Then the wolves started appearing in his dreams. One day, Jon looked up from fixing a car to see a cloaked figure on a horse in the distance and he banged his head against the hood as he jumped. When he looked up again, the figure was gone. Over the next week, he would look up or turn around to see the shadowy figure and he eventually worked up the courage to tell his father about it.
Nomad clan massacred by Dzo No Qua & Wendigo led by a shadowy figure. Lost his father and a younger sister. Father’s sturdy Walther MA-2100 sniper rifle.
The survivors of the Nomads he had grown up with looked at him and Min with shadowed eyes. Some of the mothers showed sympathy, but all stayed away from him as if whatever the killers wanted with him would rub off on them. So he took what was left to him, and struck out on his own one night. He was surprised when Min appeared out of the shadows of the nomad camp, running with a bundle to catch up with him. He tried to explain, that where he was going would be dangerous, but she would not be dissuaded. Threatening to drag him before the elders of the Nomad clan, Jon was afraid that she would cost him his freedom, and grudgingly let her join him. Constantly moving, he would pick off a rabbit or two here and there with a stone, and once he brought down a deer with his father’s rifle to feed the two of them.
One night, they came across a campfire. Exhaustion and hunger strove against fear of who could be tending the fire and won out over their worries. If they did not find help from someone they were going to eventually die out in the wilderness by themselves.
They had found an old retired Street Samurai hiding out. The elven Samurai’s name was Alain Machera, his yellowed cybereyes were a generation older than Jon, but the way that he looked at you it felt as if they could see through every secret you had. He had been shadowing the two for a few days now and decided if he didn’t help them they would most likely starve or perish out there. He took the two of them in and eventually brought them back to his home.
He became a second father to the two of them. Over the next four years, Alain taught Jon the way of the sword, and how to handle a pistol and his father’s sniper rifle. Alain told Jon stories of when he used to run the shadows, and the name that he had once used as a shadowrunner…Gaidin. It was Sperethiel, Alain said, translating loosely as ‘brother to battle’ Alain thought that Jon looked a great deal like the Hokkaido-Japanese metahumans he had spent some time around when he was younger, so Alain did a little digging through his old contacts.
Alain discovered that back in 2036, when Tir Tairngire attempted to invade California, a group of Hokkaido metahumans –orks and elves mostly, fought back against the incursion, being led by their matriarch, Mariko Kitsunei. Mariko was pregnant at the time, but refused to be left behind while her people went to war. Mariko Kitsunei body was found on the slopes of Shasta Dam, and unconfirmed reports stated that an ork baby was found on the slopes of Shasta Dam by a human mercenary named Thom Lane whom subsequently adopted the child and left California. The details were lost after that, but Alain felt he knew enough to piece together what had happened. He tried to tell Jon about his past, but Jon grew angry, Tom had been the only father that Jon had known, and Alain had taken that away from him. Jon left Alain, having spoken harsh words, but only got a few miles away before the sounds of gunfire and explosions brought him back.
He came back and found the wreckage of Alain’s truck and his home strewn with the corpses of four elves in body armor. Searching the forest nearby, he finally found Alain, wounded badly and bleeding to death with Min by him. Alain told the two of them that they couldn’t stay there; they’d have to leave the area, make for the nearest village for help and transportation. After gathering everything useful he could find, he cobbled together a makeshift travois for Alain and started off through the woods.
As Alain lay mumbling feverishly in the travois, Jon heard Alain talking about his past. He couldn’t hide from it anymore. Stopping to check on Alain, Jon found that he was dying. In one moment of lucidity, Alain reached up to Jon and pulled him close. “Aithen, Aithen was my son’s name. You are my Aithen. Don’t let his name die.” With his last strength, Alain pushed his sword into Jon’s hands. As Alain died in his arms, Jon wept silently and begged him to forgive him for leaving. Taking the sword, Jon vowed, that he would take Alain’s son’s name for his own. And that he would hunt down Alain’s killers no matter the cost and avenge Alain, a man who had become a second father to Aithen.
He dug a grave there in the forest and piled stones atop to keep the animals away from Alain’s body. Then taking what supplies he had dragged with him, Alain’s katana and his father’s rifle, he snuck into town, stole a battered Subaru Baja, and drove for Seattle with Min—looking for Alain’s old contacts.
In Seattle he found Sam Granger, and then later, the shadowrunner Gezpacho. Through these two he finds work as a shadowrunner, following in Alains foot steps as an honorable Street Samurai. His wanderings through chinatown and the asian markets around it introduced him to Uncle Chen and Kurosawa Hideoshi. He lives with his sister Min at the school that Gezpacho owns, out of the back of the old Subaru. Occassionally they sneak out of Seattle and set up camp in the wilder places of the cascades.
Psychological Summary: Hides himself in clubs. Flashbacks of his family every time he sees a family – parents and kids together. Takes care of club kids, kids on the street. He’s everyone’s older brother. He searches for his birthright carefully, because he values his independence and freedom and fears what his birthright might really be.
