Vixo Junior
Vixo Junior is a simplified version of the Pixar lamp. The model was supplied to the
students for use in our first animation - a lamp jump.
Slippy
Slippy is a NURBS model given to students in the animation class to use for their animation.
Once we had the model and the basic skeletal rig, we had to rig it for animation with implicits
and IK (inverse kinematics). This particular Slippy has been extensively modified for greater ease
of animation, with wrist bones (to eliminate a problem with gimbal locking) and roll disks instead
of up vectors. Roll Disks were designed by Josh Enes and his excellent tutorial for implementing them
can be found here.
Waves, Crates & Helicoptors
Two assignments eventually combined into one involving wave deformation of a grid & path animation.
The first assignment was to create an ocean surface from a grid and place a box moving through the
water along a path towards the camera. The box became a crate

The Beluga Whale
For this assignment we went to the Vancouver aquarium to study the movement of the Beluga whales there.
Prep work included timing swim and acceleration cycles and the length of glides; sketches, storyboards,
and a dope sheet listing the movement of the whale and camera work in the animation. A low-res render
pass without volumetric effects shows the movement of the whale here:
